P.E.E.R    Investigations

Private Residence, New Oxford, PA
January 20, 2007

A New Oxford resident contacted a member of PEER to help with some strange situations in their house. This is a young couple with a small child. They have lived in the house for only a few years and have made several cosmetic changes and improvements to the house. They have taken many photographs of their child and pet dog and have experienced on several of the photographs, orbs above and around the child and dog. Orbs have not shown up on any other photos of others in the house or of the house before, during, or after their remodeling.
In addition to the orbs in photographs, the young lady has experience activities of a more personal kind. Many times, she will go to bed while her husband continues to watch TV down stairs in the parlor. On several occasions just after going to bed, she has felt something or someone crawling up the bed as if to lie behind or beside her. She is confident that she was not dreaming or even asleep. As she would feel the movement, she becomes startled and sits up in bed, only to feel nothing. If memory serves me correctly, she may have even seen on at least one occasion, the impressions or indents on the bed as she sat up. She has also experienced the bed shaking. In addition to the bedroom, she has also had odd experiences in the bathroom. After taking a bath or shower, she wraps herself with a towel, tucking it in at the top. Shortly after doing so on several occasions, the towel suddenly drops to the floor. Upon discussions with her about these experiences, she explained that it is not as if the towel slowly works its way loose and slips to the floor. She claims, "it's as if it is quickly tugged or pulled down and then falls to the floor."
Her husband has had no experiences of his own and her child speaks of monsters and ghosts, but only in the normal context of a child of its age.

Investigation Details

Nine PEER members participated in this investigation. We arrived at the house at 7:00 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2007. The first part of the investigation we wanted to attend to was a preliminary discussion with the homeowners to identify the main areas in question. Identifying those areas as the master bedroom and bathroom, the homeowner lead a small group upstairs. In this preliminary group was an investigator to take base EMF readings, an investigator with a Sony Camcorder using digital tape and 'Night Shot" vision and a third investigator with some extra psychic capabilities in an attempt to determine or identify any spirits that may be in the area. Details are listed below.
After this preliminary walk-through, the entire group split into two groups, one for each floor. Each group consisted of 1 EMF detector and 2 digital cameras. There was 1 investigator with a thermal detector and 1 with a camcorder using Night Shot. This final investigative walk-through lasted approximately 1 hour and was performed in the dark.

UPDATE
03 - 11 - 2007

Here is a bit of light to be shed on this investigation based on an interview with a professional involved with the death of a previous resident and after reviewing additional documentation. It has been verified that a previous resident who was up in age had moved her bedroom into the dining room so as not to have to climb the stairs. This resident was subsequently found dead in this room of her house. Read on and see how this bit of new evidence plays out with our investigation.

The general weather for the evening was clear, minimal winds (@ 5 mph) with a temperature of 34 degrees Fahrenheit.

A more detailed narrative and findings are shown below.

This photo is a little bit of a puzzle. In the bottom right corner is what first appears to be a moving object. At a second look, my thoughts led to the reflection of a ribbon that is hanging from the flower arrangement. BUT, upon review of the next photo and making comparisons, it is obvious that there is no ribbon.

So . . . if it is not a ribbon, what is it? Could it be the strap from the other photographer’s camera? Maybe, but I'm not 100% convinced. Here is another lesson . . . remove camera straps.

Okay, it's a little tuff to see something in this photo but if you take a closer look you'll find an orb on the front right corner of the throw. Interestingly enough, their dog Maggie just left that spot only minutes earlier. Do you think there could be a little jealously in the house?

It seems that we have an orb on the move here. There are two orbs in the room. Only one of them seems to be moving while the other orb on the right appears to be stationary.

Many of the photographs in this room offered false orbs by way of reflections of the beads on the pillows or by the reflecting flash off shiny objects such as glass or book covers. Under a rather careful examination and the inquisitive investigator (Stan) with a noisy EMF detector, one orb did reveal itself by the bedpost.

Psychic and General thoughts and Readings

One of PEER's past investigators was what we refer to as "sensitive" (he does not prefer to be called psychic). During our initial walk through of the bathroom and bedroom, he did pick up on some interesting sensations and thoughts. Although he sensed nothing in the bathroom, he did pick up something in the bedroom. He was aware of the experiences of the homeowner and when asked if he sensed something in the master bedroom, he replied; "yes but it is not a person, it's a dog." The homeowner's face lit up at that very instant. She had initially thought of her past dog (Alex) when this first happened to her but she dismissed it. She later described how Alex would jump up on the bed and lie up against the back of her legs. She had this dog when she lived with her parents so her husband and child never knew Alex. Other information concerning this situation is documented with the Video Recording section of this investigation.

In general, the investigators agreed that any spirits in the house (most likely that of Alex) are friendly and nothing malevolent was detected. It is also speculated that Alex is the one who is pulling the towel off the lady in an attempt to get her attention.

We also posed the possibility that some type of portal is present, in the living room running toward the dining room pocket doors. Later in the evening, the strong emf readings that were picked up earlier that evening in the middle of the living room . . . disappeared.

EMF Readings

During the initial walk through of the master bedroom, a reading of 2.0 was detected just to the left side of the bed and onto the bottom left side of the bed itself.
Other readings throughout the house were detected. Specifically, there was a reading ranging between 6 and 10 (pinning the meter) in the dining room in the southeast corner of the room and in the opening of the pocket doors leading to the living room. It was determined that just below the dining room in the basement was an electric panel. Oddly enough, there seemed to be a correlation of the same type and level of readings in a straight vertical line in the dining room, master bedroom and the attic. These readings were picked up on two separate detectors. I do not believe the EMF detectors used would pick up the electric panel three floors away.

Thermal and EMF Readings

Another significant EMF reading was detected in the living room in the room’s southwest corner. The readings detected spiked up to 10 (again pinning the meter) and at the same time the thermal scanner recorded a temperature drop of 5 degrees. The residents claimed that in this exact area, they have taken photos of their child, which have contained orbs. A similar thermal drop was recorded at the entry to the child's bedroom.

Thermal readings seemed to be scattered all over the place in the master bedroom. Specifically, there was a continuous fluctuation in temperature (up and down) of 6 degrees at the foot of the bed. It was nearly impossible to maintain a continuous and consistent thermal reading in this room. The temperature ran the gambit from the 50s, 60s and into the 70s.

Video Recordings

We asked the homeowner if she would lie on the bed and attempt to encourage Alex to come up onto the bed while we had the camcorder running. She did agree to this and during the first few minutes, she did detect the bed shaking however, it was not enough to be seen on the recording.

All video recording during this investigation utilized the "Night Shot." General lighting throughout the house was low and it was determined to perform the majority of our investigation in the dark. We began the first floor recording in the parlor on the southeast side of the house and headed north toward the dining room. Only a few minutes into the recording, while monitoring the live recording on the view screen of the camcorder, we noticed a light flash across the room. It appears to have begun on the floor in the center of the parlor and headed in a nearly straight line to the east pocket door between the dining room and the parlor. Upon review of the recording, we noticed a second light (a little dimmer than the first) make its way along the same path. After reviewing all of the video footage, no other abnormalities were detected.
